Rev. David C. (“D.C.”) Lacy

Died: December 25, 1924 in Austin, Travis County, Texas

Reverend D.C. Lacy (David C. Lacy) was the son of Charley Lacey, Sr. and wife, Millie Lacey. Reverend D.C. Lacy was one of the first Black teachers in the ex-enslaved Black community in the area of present day Mexia. He was also the first minister at the Rocky Crossing Methodist Church.

Rev. Lacy married Rebecca Taylor, daughter of David Taylor, on January 3, 1884 in Limestone County, Texas. The couple welcomed 3 children but none were living by the taking of the 1900 U.S. Census. D.C. Lacy passed away on December 25, 1924 in Austin, Texas. Per his request, D.C. Lacy’s remains were returned from Austin, Texas for burial beside his ancestors in the Bend Cemetery.
